ESSENCE: Let the Festivities Begin!

Since the early 90’s Essence Magazine, the well-known lifestyle magazine for African American women, has chosen New Orleans for its annual three-day event – the Essence Festival. Each year, the festival brings in the top performers and entertainers in the country, as well as a series of seminars created to empower African American men and women.

The 2016 Essence Festival’s weekend of empowerment seminars and concerts started on Friday morning in New Orleans.

The festival features free seminars at the Morial Convention Center covering topics such as health, beauty, family and relationships. Speakers at the seminars include Misty Copeland, Iyanla Vanzant, Bishop T.D. Jakes and Ava Duvernay. The one and only, Oprah Winfrey will make her first-ever Essence Festival appearance at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 02.
