Things You Need to Know Before Voting in 2016

Election day is quickly approaching and we want to make sure you are prepared before hitting the polls this November. If you are 18 years of age, a U.S. Citizen and meet residency requirements of your state then you should be registered to vote. Not sure if you’re registered, check here. As you make your way to the polls to cast your vote for either Republican Party Nominee Donald Trump or Democratic Party Nominee Hillary Clinton for the next President of the U.S., make sure you are prepared.

Here are the basic you need to know:

WHEN IS ELECTION DAY?

Election Day is on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Research the candidate’s stances and policies they are proposing. Your state representatives and local initiatives are just as important as casting your ballots for the next president of the Free World. Educate yourself on issues that affect you locally as well as nationally, your future depends on it. Learn more about the presidential candidates here and here.

YOUR NEAREST POLLING PLACE

There will be a number of polling laces that will accessible from either work or home. Plan ahead and check times. Visit RocktheVote.com to find your closest polling place

VOTER ID REQUIREMENTS

Two-thirds of states request or require that you provide some form of identification before you’re allowed to vote at the polls.

FIND OUT IF YOU NEED TO BRING AN ID TO VOTE

Your state’s laws, as indicated by this state legislators’ map, determine whether you will need to show an ID, and if so, what kind.

LEAVING WORK TO VOTE

Different states have different rules but most employers will give employees at least a 2-hour window where you can leave work to go and vote. Check with your boss or your HR department to get the specifics as it relates to the rules for your job and your state.

VOTE

Depending on what time you hit the polls, you probably won’t have to wait too long. But even if the line is long, don’t  you dare leave without voting. The outcome of the election is important because it will impact everything from your taxes, health and the future of our children.
